A Boeing 707 cargo plane crashed near Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, witnesses said.
The crash happened around 3.30 p.m. local time as the aircraft was taking off, according to initial reports. The exact location of the crash was not immediately clear, with some reports saying the crash happened at the end of the runway and others saying it happened as far as two miles away. It is not clear if it crashed in a residential area.
Pictures from at least several miles away showed a large cloud of smoke rising above the area.
Six people were said to be on board the plane, which is believed to be from Sudan, an official told Arabian Business. The official said there were no survivors and said a full investigation would be launched.
In 2004, an Iranian plane crashed at the airport, killing 43 people.
